Vienna Islamic Centre, Austria

This Islamic center is considered to be the largest place where people of Muslim community gather together to offer their daily five times prayers and also offer their Muslim festival prayers which are End-all Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha prayers twice a year. It is situated in the capital city of Austria, Vienna.

The Muslims living in Austria decided to build a mosque       and for this purpose purchased a piece of land which measured 8300 square meters in the city of Vienna. Due to the paucity of funds the construction of the mosque was delayed, when in 1975, the Saudi King Faysal decided to finance the construction of the mosque and for this purpose he issued the orders to release the money.

 The committee appointed Richard Lugner as the in charge for building the mosque which could be started in 1977 and was completed in 1979. The then Austrian President finally declared the mosque open for the Muslim Community. This event was covered by the Austrian media.

The mosque has a height of 32 meters while the dome is as high as 16 meters with the diameter being 20 meters. The mosque is also embellished with a beautiful minaret whose height measures 32 meters.
