This mosque is the biggest mosque in Turkey spread over an area of 52,600 square meters. Its design resembles to that of Sultan Ahmed Mosque which is famously known as Blue Mosque located in Istanbul. The Interior of the mosque is very much like that of Selimiye Mosque in Edirne. This mosque is in Adana in Turkey.
This mosque was ready for the public in 1998 and the covered area of the mosque is 6,600 square meters. The capacity of this mosque is 28,500 and it has 6 minarets each with a height of 99 meters. The height of the Dome is 54 meters from the ground level.. The site where the mosque is constructed was seized from the clutches of Armenian Graveyard.
The mosque has been the joint project of the religious foundation of Turkey and the Sabanci Foundation.
The mosque is built on the cross roads of Adana and the Railway lines that lead to the other neighboring cities. The mosque is visible from every part of the city because of the towering minarets which adds to the beauty of the city.
This grand mosque with six minarets is based on the side of River Seyhan with 32 meter diameter dome resting on eight pillars. The minarets which are four in number and build next to the main mosque stands at a height of 99 meters high whereas the other two at the half covered entrance are 75 meter high.
The mosque has been equipped with the capacity to cater the needs of the students, the accommodation for the Imam and the person who gives the call for prayers, the rooms for the people who sit in the mosque during the last 10 days of Ramadan, lecture room and the provision for ablution.
The mosque has been decorated with calligraphy of verses from the Holy Quran by the famous calligrapher Huseiyn Kutli. The tiles inside the mosque have placed in the style if Iznik system.
The doors, platform, minber, are all made of marble and the images and designs have been carried out by the famous Turkish artist Nakkas M Semin.
The internal and external lighting system has been provided by the Philip Electrical Company. The mosque has been given the latest sound system which could be termed as “State of the Art” technology.
The doors made of wood are in the “Kundikari” design while the stained glasses fixed in the windows have been developed by the Famous Turkish artist ALI TURAN. The mosque also has a digital library situated in the west of the mosque to facilitate the Researchers.
